A four week Coaching for Beginners course is held on Monday evenings from 6pm. This course is an Introduction to Archery and caters for all ages.  No previous archery experience is required. Club training equipment will be provided if required. If you have your own gear you are welcome to bring it along and use it (note - we do not have tuning / bow setup facilities at the club).
 
All courses are conducted by appointment. There is a limit of three students per coach, so please phone us on 833-7240 to book your coaching. Leave a message and the coach will contact you.
 
Cost for a junior is $40 and $60 for a senior, payable at the first session.
 
Format
The following is an outline of the Coaching for Beginners course:
 
Week 1
  • About Massey Archery Club
  • Introduction to shooting and form
  • Fundamentals: stance, nocking the arrow, drawing the bow, anchoring, aiming, releasing the arrow
Week 2
  • Reinforcing the fundamentals learnt during the first session
  • Focus on correct form
Week 3
  • Aiming. This week we will set up targets and focus on aiming techniques
  • At the conclusion of this week's lesson there will be a quick demonstration of the types of bows that are used by club members.
Week 4
  • Walk the couse. Please bring suitable outdoor gear (e.g. boots / gumboots). This session will focus on shooting a section of the top course.
  • Wrap up. Discussion of where to from here - further coaching, how to join the club, how to go about purchasing a bow.
